Army Veteran at Total Senior Care Reflects on Veterans Day

Richard Sherlock, Army Veteran and Total Senior Care participant, stands with Veterans Day Squirrel on a sunny fall day in Olean, New York.

Richard Sherlock, Army Veteran of 20 years, reflected on what Veterans Day means to him. “Veterans Day is the best day of my life,” stated Sherlock. He went on to explain how it’s a time where he likes to remember his friends he had while in the service. “I was proud to serve my country – very proud.”

Richard is known at Total Senior Care for having a great sense of humor. “I have a good sense of humor because it helps others feel good and communicate with each other. Making others feel good makes me feel good.” Sherlock went on to explain that losing friends while serving in the Army gave him a bigger appreciation for his life and the lives of others. By being a participant at Total Senior Care, he is able to continue making friends and sharing his wonderful sense of humor. “Total Senior Care is like Family, we get to know each other and share stories,” Sherlock said.

Richard Sherlock is one of 17 Veterans who goes to Total Senior Care. Every year, Total Senior Care and HomeCare & Hospice make sure to recognize their veteran participants and patients by giving hand-signed thank you cards and certificates of appreciation. According to Kate Miller, Director of Clinical Support Services at HomeCare & Hospice, “It is important for our organizations to recognize our many veteran participants and patients because of their contributions that they have made for our freedom. It truly is an honor for us to serve veterans in our communities.” You can learn more about Total Senior Care by visiting their website: or by calling (716) 379-8474 to schedule a free tour!
